Peter Darby

Peter Darby came to chess late, walking into the Bangkok Chess Club in 2000 and never really leaving. He’s since played under the Thai flag, winning Team Bronze for Thailand in the senior category at the ASEAN Games. But it’s off the board where he’s left the bigger mark: he helped build the Bangkok Chess Club Open into the highest rated annual international tournament in South East Asia, and has spent years pushing chess education into Thai schools.

An Arbiter and Chief Arbiter at tournaments since 2010, and a FIDE-licensed arbiter, he’s the person making sure every move, every clock and every result at the Polar Chess Expedition holds up to scrutiny, wherever on Earth the board happens to be.
